Vision : State Government has launched a Scheme namely ‘MAA’ for providing cooked quality meal to the poor and needy citizen of the State to be served by Urban Local Bodies in common kitchen/s with the contribution of Rs.5/- by the beneficiaries since 15th February, 2021. Subsidy of the State Government is Rs.10/- per meal.
Mission : Welfare schemes are started with the intention to provide benefits to vulnerable sections of society. The success of this welfare scheme depends on the seriousness of the people at the helm of affairs, the efficiency of the scheme’s functionaries and the involvement of the people. The Maa Canteen, a delivery system to provide food security in urban areas of the State, has become an effective mechanism in reaching to the poor and needy citizen.
Objective : To provide subsidized quality cooked meal to poor citizens of West Bengal for development of their nutrition.
Coverage : The program is initially implemented at all the 7 Municipal Corporations and the District Headquarter ULBs which includes 34 ULBs . Now all the ULBs including New Kolkata Development Authority have been covered State under the domain of this "MAA Programme"

Animesh Biswas, 68 age, only member of family, residing at Masunda, Burir bari, Ward-7, New Barrackore, Kolkata-131. He has no source of income as such. His relatives are giving little bit support. “It’s really helping me a lot getting food @5/-. Thanks to the State Government”
Prabhat Mondal, 75 age, only member of family, residing at Masunda, Burir bari, Ward-7, Asansol MC, He has no source of income as such. His relatives are giving little bit support. “MAA Kitchen is blessing for me. It is great pleasure to think that the government cares for elderly peoples like us. Didi’s (refer SHGs) are serving food in a motherly matter justifying the nomenclature of the scheme for which the scheme has been launched”
